The USS Generation was a Star Trek chat sim that ran between 1996 and ca 2002 in the Trek Online sim club.

The USS Generation began simming on September 13, 1996. It was the first sim and flagship of the UFP/SF (later renamed the United Simulation Group (USG)). On January 19, 1997, the Generation (and the other sims of the USG) merged into Trek Online, and the Generation lost its status as the flagship of the fleet, that distinction going to the USS Orion.

While the Generation began its life as an Intrepid-class starship, by the spring of 1997 it had inexplicably changed to become a Defiant-class starship, with the registry number changing from NCC-17875 to NX-17875.

Throughout most of its history the Generation simmed Friday nights at 8pm eastern time (United States), although in 2001 it was shifted to a new time slot, first to Wednesday night and later Tuesday night.

Except for a brief stint as an Intrepid-class starship, the Generation spent its career as a Defiant-class starship, registry number NX-17875. While its sister ship, the USS Defiant, enjoyed a Romulan built cloaking device, the Generation had to make do with a Federation designed "Vector cloak." While not as stealthy as the Romulan cloak - the Vector cloak could be penetrated by certain sensors - the Vector cloak had added advantages; it was better integrated with the ships power grid, shields, and hull. By this means, the Generation avoided the unfortunate tendency displayed by the Defiant's cloaking device of going off-life after sustaining slight damage in battle.
