Split

The 2002 prize has split coloring between RolePlayerUSA and the League WDB. Is this intentional? Since an arm of the League was being awarded, clearly the entire coloring should be marked down as intersimming organization. --Chas 19:25, 25 July 2011 (PDT)

• Not only was it intentional, but it took a little hunting to figure out how to do it. The Simming League Web Development Bureau's prize is categorized as "other" as it was awarded to a department within the Simming League, and not to the Simming League itself. All prizes are currently categorized by what entity actually received the award, not by their parent sims, clubs, or organizations. -IndyFan 23:27, 25 July 2011 (PDT)

Tables

Awesome! I like the table fix and the colors. Looking at the categories, I don't think Simming League department needs its own breakout... I would just categorize them with Intersimming Organization. Library/publication too, I think there needs to be some consistency... like for instance you have my winning for MSM as going to a person, even though it is also a publication... but than you have publications of clubs being their own thing... I'm almost inclined to get rid of the publication/library categories totally, and make it a club award when a club is being awarded for their publication, make it a person award when a person is being awarded for their publication, and make it an intersim organization award when its an independent publication. I categorized everything by who or what actually received the award. In the case of newsletters, two newsletters (Star Trek Galactic Newsletter & CommLink) were awarded the Simming Prize. In the case of TOL Times, for example, Trek Online was actually awarded the Simming Prize for TOL Times. For My Simming Memoirs, you were actually awarded the Prize. On a separate note, I think combining Libraries and Simming League Departments into "Other" would work. -IndyFan 01:41, 19 May 2011 (PDT)

While it's fine to hold the discussion here, we need to be mindful that how we categorize things should be completely independent of the Simming Prize. Ack, so many indentations! It would be nice to keep things consistent with site categories, but people can easily subdivide the site into a million niches. A table should be bit more concise... and we should try to consolidate into as few categories as possible in the table. I think the write up for intersim organization is broad enough to include independent simming publications... "An intersimming or intergaming organization is any entity which promotes or assists the hobby of simming/online role-playing by offering services to simmers/RPGers, games, or clubs/groups, but which does not run games as a core function, and which is not part of a club/group." --Chas 17:09, 19 May 2011 (PDT)

I don't think we're creating, or are in danger of creating, too many categories. In fact, I just deleted a number of categories a few weeks ago. ;) The Publications category was created before the categorization took place on this page. As for independent newsletters being considered intersimming organizations, I don't think it really fits. For one, the newsletters are single purpose entities, whereas all the other entities currently in the intersimming organizations category are not (the definition even mentions services in the plural). Additionally, it creates more problems should a newsletter ever become affiliated, or end affiliation, with one group or organization -- like CommLink, for example, it's affiliation would change whether it's considered an intersimming organization or a newsletter, even though it's basically doing the same thing. Finally, independent newsletters are much more similar to affiliated newsletters than they are to intersimming organizations. For example, the Star Trek Galactic Newsletter was probably more similar to the TOL Times than RolePlayerUSA.com. -IndyFan 07:22, 20 May 2011 (PDT)

New Trustee System

Love the new trustee system.  Bravo, Chas.  However, I think the wording for choosing a new trustee should one be deemed incapable is somewhat vague and could lead to some, albeit unlikely, unintended consquences.  Criteria should be developed to prevent any possibility of future abuse.  Now, time for me to get working on my nominations!  -CharlesStar (talk) 16:12, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

Tigra Tigress's placement in statistics

In 2010, Tigra Tigress was awarded a simming prize...as she was a key member of the team for the Communique which was the CommLink which itself was awarded a simming prize in 2003, she was also at the time that she was awarded her Simming Prize a member of Sixth Fleet, shouldn't one if not both the service of Communique/CommLink or Sixth Fleet be credited in the statistics of multiple awards? Even if the decision is that the personal award shouldn't count for the service, the fact that her home fleet at the time was Sixth Fleet should count as something in the statistics, and to end the arguement that the award was given for her early work, the award discription does state to the present day which at that time was Sixth Fleet. -AndJessLove (talk) 05:25, June 17, 2014 (UTC)

Fake Simming Prize Edits

In February 2022, A fake simming prize was announced in an attempt to steal it from the original Simming Prize located at the .org. The .com fake simming prize has attempted to edit this wiki to reflect incorrect and false information. I have gotten it reverted for now and recommend that this page be locked until the issue is resolved. ItWasntMe223 (talk) 14:00, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

There is no record of me or any of the other .com trustees editing this page at all during February 2022, much less adding false information. Today, I edited the article to make it more neutral. I agree that the .com and .org designations is the most clear way to provide differentiation. CharlesStar (talk) 14:28, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

I tried my best to stick to the major actions and statements made with relevant context, use neutral action words, give both sides equal time, and avoid writing commentary or drawing conclusions.
