Read the instructions before joining
How to use IRC
  • Entering
  1. Click one of the IRC buttons to join that channel
  2. In "Nickname", type the desired display name
  3. Click "Connect"
  • Commands
  • You can open another channel in the same window by typing /join #Channelname
    • If you're in #SciWorld1, you can type /join #SciWorld2
    • If you're in #SciWorld2, you can type /join #SciWorld1
  • You can change your nicname by typing /nick Newnickname
  • You can perform actions by typing /me does something (this results in * Yournickname does something)
  • You can leave a specific channel by typing /leave
  • Access levels
  • People with symbols in front of their name, are channel (half)operators who are only to act in case of extreme drama/spam; please listen to them if they ask something
  • There are also two bots in the channels: Xertion and DenServ; they don't usually respond to people
  • IRC data
  • For more experienced IRC users:

  • Coarse language may be used, but please keep it to a minimum
  • If the event host wants you to be quiet during an explanation and to ask your questions at the end, please heed that request
  • Just be nice and have fun!
To all event hosts
  • There are two rooms: pay attention to which room you are hosting your event in
  • Please be present about 10-15 minutes before your event starts
  • Mention the name of your event at the start ("Welcome to the ... event") and preferably also at the end ("Thanks for attending ...")
  • Restrain yourself to the time you're given; exception goes for the last event of the day, where host must confirm that the participants want to proceed if they want to continue
