Quality vs. Quantity is the term used to describe the debate between choosing quality or quantity in a text-based role-playing community. Depending on the role-playing style, there may be rules for quality with minimum requirements of spelling and grammar, or for quantity with a minimum word or line count.


Aside from the correct use of the English or other role-played language, quality is rather hard to measure. Tastes about the length of sentences, the used vocabulary and furthermore will vary from one community to another and even within communities.


The minimum desired quantity will often depend on the role-playing style. While speed role-play inserts a minimum word limit to for instance avoid that winning is all about writing the shortest fatal blow, literate role-play does this in order to obtain a minimum amount of details in the posts of the participating role-player.
