The Khitomer Conference is an annual online simming convention held every February on Discord. While this event is geared toward the Star Trek simming community, players and roleplayers from all walks of life and genres are welcome to attend. The next Khitomer will be held in February 2022 on the fleet-neutral Discord Server.
The first conference was hosted on February 23, 2019, by Greenfelt and Aio of Bravo Fleet, duLac and Mykur Sharr of Obsidian Fleet, and AlexM and S'iraa of Pegasus Fleet as a means to "bury the hatchet" among the different groups. Invitations to attend were sent out to as many of the active Trek simming groups, including Theta Fleet, UFOP: StarBase 118, and more. Over 230 people were able to attend 24 different sessions and workshops, as well as could participate in a live sim conducted by Arzie of USF. Response to this event was overwhelmingly positive. Many, in fact, asked near the end of the event whether or not this would become an annual feature.
Among the sessions were topics like how-to guides to Anodyne Production's open-source Nova software, helpful roleplaying and character building tips, lively discussions on worldbuilding, and even deep dives into Star Trek canon.
Transcripts were made available for each of these sessions on February 25, 2019 at the Project Khitomer website, and can still be found here.
Following Bravo Fleet's 2019 restructure, the individuals who had been involved in the initial Khitomer planning assembled the community for the Second Annual event on February 22, 2020. This event had been sponsored by the newly formed 22nd Fleet, with Obsidian and Pegasus Fleets returning to host as well.
Invitations again were extended to the larger simming community. Members from 16th Fleet, Theta Fleet, UFOP: StarBase 118, and other independent sims joined the hosts in presenting 16 unique sessions ranging from Character Development, Department specific discussions, helpful tips and mission planning for Commanding Officers / Game Masters, and more. Anodyne Productions was also on hand to present developments on its long awaited Nova NextGen software.
Transcripts for these sessions were made available on March 1, 2020 at the Project Khitomer website and can be found here.
The Third Annual Conference was held on February 20, 2021. Members from Obsidian Fleet, Pegasus Fleet, 22nd Fleet, 16th Fleet, Theta Fleet, Sim Central, United Earth Starfleet, Gamma Quadrant Exploration, RPG Writing, and other organizations independent sims joined the hosts in presenting 16 unique sessions ranging from Character Development, Department specific discussions, helpful tips and mission planning for Commanding Officers / Game Masters, and more. This event even saw the return of a trivia session. Over 270 people were on the server for the event.
Transcripts for these sessions were made available on March 2, 2021 at the Khitomer website and can be found here.
The 4th Annual Khitomer Conference has been tentatively scheduled for the weekend of February 19, 2022. Further details will be announced closer to that date.
