In real life or real life, abbreviated respectively as IRL or RL, is a term frequently used to describe events or facts that exist offline; in the physical world. It is sometimes used interchangeably with "out of character", in contrast with IC (in-character) events.

Unlike out of character, the term "in real life" refers not only to what happens outside the role-play, but also outside the internet. Besides that, it may also be used with for instance actors (in contrast with the character they act the role of) or authors (in contrast with their narrator role or their characters).
