Since time immemorial, whenever humans encountered a situation that seemed to surpass their resources for dealing with it, they would cast their eyes to the heavens; and the gods who dwelled therein. Sometimes, when the prayers were powerful enough, the gods themselves were "summoned" to earth to handle the problems personally. However, this time the prayer was fundamentally flawed, and the god that was summoned descended to earth in four separate parts: Haiyoku himself; his zanpakuto; an entity born of a disillusioned sceptical mind, completely lacking in mercy - Yami (or Dark) Haiyoku; and of course Tenro's counterpart - wielded by Yami Haiyoku - Jigokuro (Hell's Wolf). Due to the "weaker" natures of Tenro and Jigokuro, they were immediately subjugated by their stronger counterparts, and thus have attained some semblance of completion. However, both remaining parts - the "dominant" ones - still intermittently suffer intense pain deriving from their divided souls. In order for them to become complete, one must completely and utterly defeat and subjugate the other and fuse into a new entity - its personality dependent on which side claimed victory in that final struggle.
Since being summoned
Haiyoku himself has no memory whatsoever of his life or existence prior to being summoned, which makes sense since he was only born as a result of an imperfect ritual in the first place. Lost and alone, he found himself in the depths of the forest, and was forced to fend for himself in the wild for a number of years before he - quite accidentally - stumbled upon his own pyromantic and aeromantic abilities. As a result of this time, he is well versed in the art of minimalistic survival, with only an exquisitely sharp blade and his own wits for company.
Still, he found himself inexorably drawn towards the edge of the forest, to a small rustic cabin where a young girl named Nuraya stayed with her parents.
Meeting with Nuraya
By the time he had encountered Nuraya, her inherent abilities were already beginning to make themselves apparent. She was causing wild, uncontrolled fluctuations in temperature and air pressure around her, without being aware of it. Her parents, driven by fear of her abilities, decided to take the young girl's life in her sleep. The cold-blooded nature of this murder attempt drove Haiyoku into a vast rage. This was the first time he'd used his powers in anger, completely reducing Nuraya's parents - and the house they lived in - to a crumbling pile of ash. As it was his fault that Nuraya was now alone, he took her under his wing - at least until she settled elsewhere. Eventually, he left her in the abode of an aged hermit whom he had met in the woods, and resigned himself to protecting her from afar. When the hermit finally passed away, Haiyoku stepped up and took a more active role in the 19-year old girl's life. As time passed, the pair found they had more in common than their own respective solitudes, and their feelings towards each other progressed through an enduring friendship to a deep and passionate love.
At first glance, Haiyoku appears to be mild-mannered and polite in his mannerisms. His tone of voice is rather formal, regardless of who he's speaking to. Despite the formality, his tone always has a slightly easygoing undertone to it, the formal tone sometimes slipping to a more conversational one.
Despite his wealth of flame based abilities, Haiyoku's temper manifests itself instead as ice. Oftentimes, the only warning his opponents get is his overall demeanour appearing almost to "freeze over" - his tone instantly regaining its stiff formality, his voice becoming quiet and seemingly - to the untrained eye - calm.
However terrifying his wrath may be, though, Haiyoku doesn't get angry often, preferring to solve any disputes with diplomacy rather than on the edge of a sword. To those who know him, Haiyoku's true self shows itself - warm and caring; loving and kittenishly affectionate.
