The 22nd Fleet was a writing community that accepted games of multiple genres and franchises including Star Trek, Orville, Firefly, and Star Wars. On January 1, 2022, the fleet closed its doors permanently.

History[]

The 22nd Fleet was founded in April 2019 by players to serve as an organization for players. Its membership was united by their love to write fan-fiction through our various simulations (games) that spanned multiple genres, from Star Trek to Orville and several others! Nearly a dozen different franchises and genres were represented throughout its history, with the potential to add so many more.

In 2019, during a period of instability at Bravo Fleet, many GMs and their games chose to leave Bravo due to distrust in its leadership and its uncertain future. Several of these games turned to the 22nd Fleet, leading to sudden growth in not just the organization, but its GM Council as well. In the following months, new games were created from within the fleet's membership and Council members, and a couple of other existing games joined the roster as well. By the end of 2020, the fleet (and its GM Council) was nearly triple its original size.

The organization's charter allowed for its Chairperson to only serve for two terms at a time. Greenfelt, the fleet's inaugural Chairperson, decided not to seek an Officer's role during the 2021 election, allowing the baton to pass to a new generation of leadership with Sjet in the Chairperson role. Tensions grew within the GM Council, however, leading to some turbulent times within the organization. These tensions led to a massive effort by members of the GM Council to revamp the structure of the organization, which in turn only served to fuel the tensions and cause rifts within the Council and membership. Several officers wound up resigning. and a restructure was adopted by the Council, which shifted some power from the Council to the Officers. While the Council could and would still be involved in the major decisions the organization would make, day-to-day operations were now the full responsibility of the officers. This also resulted in a new election, with the Chairperson role shifting to Stephen and a (mostly) new administration.

Additional tweaks to the restructure were attempted over the next few months, leading to some rekindled tensions within the Council. Sims and Council members began to leave the fleet, including founding chairperson Greenfelt. In October 2021, Stephen stepped down, prompting Mike Bremer to be elected as Chairperson in an emergency election. The fleet continued to hemorrhage over the rest of the year, all due to the existing problems and conflicts within the membership that could not be rectified.

On January 1, 2022, Mike Bremer announced the immediate closure of the 22nd Fleet. Much of what remained of its roster turned to Theta Fleet while many other sims decided to go and remain independent.

Structure[]

Per the organization's charter, the 22nd Fleet is run by a GM Council. Each GM has equal representation on this body, and is able to propose alterations to the organization freely, as well as vote upon whether or not to accept these alterations. Among this Council, Officers are elected, including a Chairman, Division Heads, and other Officers the Council sees fit to add. These Officers were entrusted with special duties throughout the calendar year, ranging from accepting new games and GMs to promoting the organization and more. These Officers are subject to election every year.

The 22nd Fleet organizes its games by Divisions for easier management. Depending on how many active games represent a franchise, the Council determines if a franchise- or genre-specific division is needed. The current divisions are: Star Trek, Firefly, Star Wars, and Misc.
